Not having access to their own transport can be a huge problem for people living in rural areas, even if it is only a temporary state – perhaps following surgery. Inability to get out can make people feel isolated and trapped in their homes.
At Blackdown Support Group we understand how difficult this can be, and we have a network of volunteer drivers who are willing to give some of their time to take people out and make them feel part of their community. This can be for any number of reasons, including:
- Transport to and from appointments with doctors, opticians, dentists etc
- Transport to local social events so that clients can keep in touch with friends
- Escorts for clients to hospitals or perhaps business appointments
- Help with shopping
If, like us, you recognise how important this service is, and you are able to give some time, no matter how little, please contact the office on 01823 681036 and ask about becoming a volunteer driver.
Drivers use their own vehicles and are reimbursed mileage at the current HMRC rate.
